Manjula Subramaniyam, a former Indian Administrative Service official, passed away on Monday due to health issues, and Principal Secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra expressed his condolences.

The Gujarat cadre IAS official from the 1972 batch was the state’s first female chief secretary during Narendra Modi’s tenure as chief minister.

Mishra, in his condolences, recalled that she had been a friend and classmate.

“One of the sharpest, most dedicated, and very conscientious policemen,” he praised Manjula. Mishra reflected on her time spent in Gujarat in various roles, including as DDO in Jamnagar, Collector in Amreli and Junagadh, Additional Chief Secretary to a number of Departments, and Chief Secretary.

Between those two positions, she held positions in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Commerce’s Central Office.
