The author of Bird Box, Josh Malerman, announced in July 2020 that a sequel is in the works.
What most people don’t know is that Malerman wrote a compelling novel in 2014 before the Netflix post-apocalyptic horror-thriller film was released.
Malerman has already finished the follow-up book, he revealed.
Malorie, based on Sandra Bullock’s character in Bird Box, is the name of the sequel.
Everything we’ve learned so far is here.
What Is The Plot Of Bird Box 2(Malorie)?
From the end of the first film, Malorie will continue the story. Towards the end of Bird Box, Malorie and her two children were rescued from a perilous, blindfolded journey and taken to a school for the blind.
Apocalyptic forces have taken control of the planet, and anyone who looks at them is driven insane and commits suicide as a result of their greatest fear.
Those who are clinically insane, on the other hand, react in the exact opposite way to the entities. It appears as though they’ve recovered some of their sanity, but they’ve also developed an almost cult-like attitude toward worshipping the mysterious forces.
They were pursued by both the entities and their newfound devotees, whose mission is to awaken people and bring them to their doom, as Malorie learned along the way.
The sequel will take place ten years after the conclusion of the first film.
As Malerman explained to Inverse, “Malorie starts at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends. Then it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off ten years after that.”
When Malorie and her children set out into the dangerous world once more with their blindfolds on, the Hollywood Reporter gave us a taste.
When the three learn that there may be other survivors, they must leave the safety of the school.
Will Malorie Be Adapted Into A Film Too?
Yes, that’s wonderful! A film version of the book’s sequel is in the works. In the same interview, Malerman revealed that the sequel is already in the works. In light of the film’s success on Netflix, this isn’t surprising.
Despite the film’s mixed reception from critics, it broke Netflix’s all-time viewership record after just seven days of release with 47 million views.
When Will Malorie Release?
The sequel to the book was released on July 21, 2013. As of right now, there is no word on when the film will be released. As of this writing, Netflix has not confirmed that a sequel is in the works. As a result, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Malerman’s words about the movie sequel will come true.
Who Will Be In The Cast Of Malorie Film Sequel?
Although no official announcements have been made, we can only hope that Sandra Bullock will reprise her role as Malorie and be joined by her adopted children Vivien Lyra Blair as Girl/Olympia and Julian Edwards as Boy/Tom in the upcoming sequel.

Spanish Bird Box Movie
The realms of Bird Box are expanding.
Two Spanish-language writers, Alex and David Pastor are working on a Bird Box spin-off film. The film takes place in Barcelona and follows a group of survivors looking for a haven, including Sebastian and his young daughter Anna.
“The first of multiple local-language Bird Box spinoffs,” according to the press release, is the Spanish version. The Spanish-language spin-off has yet to receive a release date. Keep an eye out for more information.
Bird Box 2: Netflix’s Sequel Plot Revealed
When Bird Box premiered on Netflix before Christmas in 2018, it quickly became a topic of conversation in the movie world. Netflix acquired the film’s rights and cast Sandra Bullock as the film’s star after it sat in development hell for years. It was a huge success on every level. Bird Box 2 was unavoidably made.
Over the first four weeks of its release, Bird Box ranked second among Netflix originals, trailing only Extraction. A huge win for Netflix after a disastrous year with the Will Smith-led Bright, it is easy to forget that Bird Box had a modest budget (around $20 million) compared to its massive success. Bird Box, despite its low Rotten Tomatoes rating of just 63 percent, proved that Netflix can power its service with original, star-driven films. That made Netflix’s reluctance to produce a sequel to Bird Box even more pronounced. Bird Box 2 is in the works.
The Premise That Started It All
The original Netflix film’s premise is simple: aliens attack the world, but only if you “see” them can they affect you. At this point, you become temporarily insane, and most people choose to commit suicide as a result. It doesn’t affect everyone in the same way, but that’s the most common result.
A survivor of this scourge, Malorie (Sandra Bullock) is cared for by a pair of young children, a Boy, and a Girl. This is Hollywood, and even though the movie ties itself off fairly well, it’s not uncommon for a popular film to inspire a sequel.
A Bird Box Spanish Spinoff
A Spanish spinoff is taking off while news of Bird Box 2 is still awaited. Currently, Netflix is working on a new story set in Spain that will be entirely in Spanish. A sequel to Sandra Bullock’s Bird Box is in the works.
Alex Pastor (Carriers and Self/less) and David Pastor (Self/less) are currently working on the project’s script. Producers Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan, who worked on the first film, will produce the new one.
‘Bird Box 2’ is in development, based on the novel ‘Malorie’
As of yet, there has been no official word from Netflix regarding the movie’s status as a work in progress.
Adapted from Josh Malerman’s novel of the same name, Sandra Bullock’s Bird Box is getting a follow-up.
Before the publication of the second book in the Bird Box series, Malerman revealed the existence of a sequel.
In a new novel titled Malorie, which is named after the character played by Sandra Bullock in the film adaptation, the story continues where the original book/movie ended.
The movie ends with Malorie arriving at the school for the blind, where she begins her journey. Malerman told Inverse.com that after a short period of time, it takes off and continues to grow for the next ten years.
The sequel to Bird Box is in the works, according to the film’s author, who didn’t reveal any further details.
“I can’t say much, but I can tell you that it’s in the works. Even though the veil of secrecy can be disconcerting at times, he said, “I’m game.”
Bird Box, which debuted on Netflix in 2018, was an instant hit. Susanne Bier’s post-apocalyptic horror thriller was written by Eric Heisserer.
While Malorie Hayes, played by Sandra Bullock, navigates the dangers and perils of a post-apocalyptic society, she and her two children are threatened by a creature with the ability to cause a person to commit suicide at the mere sight of its face.
“Bird Box 2” has not been officially announced by Netflix.
Malorie, the follow-up novel, will be released on July 21.
