HGTV just finished filming a project with the Napiers and Christmas movies, two of our favorite things.
After Candy Coated Christmas with Ree Drummond, Food Network’s first-ever scripted movie, did well last November, discovery+ is putting more emphasis on the idea with four new movies: two from HGTV and two from Food Network.
HGTV’s first scripted holiday shows are Ben and Erin from Home Town in A Christmas Open House and Hilary Farr from Love It or List It in Designing Christmas. Food Network has also hired Bobby Flay and Duff Goldman to host two new holiday shows, One Delicious Christmas and A Gingerbread Christmas.
Kathleen Finch, Chairman, and Chief Content Officer, US Networks Group at Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a news release, “The holidays are huge for HGTV and Food Network. Together, they had 90 million seasonal viewers last year.” “So we added to what we had to offer and made four scripted holiday specials for Discovery+. Each featured some of the most popular people from Food Network and HGTV.”
It’s a great cast, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t most excited to see Erin and Ben in A Christmas Open House.
According to the movie’s official synopsis, it’s about an ambitious Atlanta property stager named Melissa Norwood (Katie Stevens) who teams up with her high school crush David Phelps (Victor Rasuk) to sell her mother’s house in their small Georgia hometown. The two decide to fix the house before people come to look at it on Christmas Eve. Melissa decides to spend some of her budgets on custom projects made by a unique local couple, Henry and Sarah Wright, even though David doesn’t want her to (Ben and Erin Napier).
“As Christmas approaches and tensions rise, Melissa and David’s romantic relationship grows, but the fact that Melissa wants to go back to Atlanta and start her own business with the money she gets from selling the house and David doesn’t want to leave his hometown could be a deal breaker for their new relationship,” the synopsis of the Hallmark-like movie teases.
The first episodes of A Christmas Open House and the other three shows will be available on the discovery+ streaming service on Friday, November 11th.
