ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills cut rookie punter Matt Araiza on Saturday, two days after a lawsuit was filed alleging that he and two college teammates gang-raped a teenager last fall. The decision to give Matt Araiza the punting job had drawn a lot of criticism from the public and raised questions within the team.

Northwestern beats Nebraska 31–28 in the first game of the season in Dublin.

DUBLIN (AP) — In the first game of the season on Saturday in Ireland, Ryan Hilinski threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns to help Northwestern beat Nebraska 31-28. Northwestern gave Nebraska its seventh straight loss, dating back to last season, and put more pressure on the team’s troubled coach, Scott Frost. Frost took the blame for a failed onside kick in the third quarter that changed the game’s direction. The Wildcats finished with 528 yards and got some payback for losing to the Huskers 56-7 and looking bad last October. Since then, Nebraska hasn’t won.

Scheffler still has a one-shot lead, but the Tour Championship is running late.

ATLANTA (AP) — In the Tour Championship, Scottie Scheffler is one shot ahead of Xander Schauffele. Still to be seen is if it stays that way through all 54 holes. Twice during the third round, storms stopped play. Players had to go home early after the second delay. Scheffler and Schauffele are two of the 10 players who have to come back early on Sunday to finish. The worst of it happened to Justin Thomas. On the 18th, he rolled a long eagle putt until it was almost close enough to tap in. If you subtract that, he has a 63 and is four shots behind. But a horn went off to stop the game, and he has to come back around noon to finish.

(AP) — NEW YORK Serena and Venus Williams have been given a wild card to play in the women’s doubles event at the U.S. Open. Raducanu laughs off “pressure” before defending his US Open title

(AP) — NEW YORK As she gets ready to start defending her 2021 U.S. Open title, Emma Raducanu doesn’t like the word “pressure.” A year ago, she beat another unseeded teenager, Leylah Fernandez, in the final to win the championship. Raducanu was only 18 years old and ranked 150th when he won the trophy. He was also the first player to have to go through qualifying rounds at a Grand Slam tournament in order to win. Since then, she has 15 wins and 18 losses, and she has lost in the second round of every major this year. She will play Alize Cornet in the first round on Tuesday night in New York.

LIV sues the PGA Tour, and four players drop out.

The PGA Tour is being sued for unfair competition by LIV Golf, which is backed by Saudi Arabia. Four players who had agreed to play for the other league have changed their minds. The new complaint was filed in federal court on Friday afternoon. Carlos Ortiz, Abraham Ancer, Pat Perez, and Jason Kokrak are the players who are no longer part of the suit. As a plaintiff, LIV Golf says that the tour’s actions have hurt LIV Golf by making it have to pay more money for players and put off their plans to launch this year. It says that if the court doesn’t rule in its favor, it won’t be able to compete effectively in the markets.
