FATAL DUI CRASH INVESTIGATION
Although laws have been passed to prevent drunk driving, people like Mr. Lewis continue to endanger the lives of innocent passengers like Robertson, who has left behind a heartbroken family.
One person is killed every 50 minutes due to an impaired driver, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). About 18 percent of all driving fatalities in the United States can be attributed to drug use other than alcohol, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
When behind the wheel when drunk, drivers are more likely to make mistakes due to poor decision making, blurred eyesight, slowed reflexes, and sluggish coordination. Banuelos has allegedly committed another felony by leaving the scene of an accident without helping the injured party.
An expert in DUI accidents, attorney Candice Bond, was consulted for her take on this case.
According to Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for The Legal Advocate, “a victim’s family may be entitled to compensation through a civil case against the culpable party,” regardless of whether criminal charges are brought. “In addition to the thorough work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, examine any security film from the scene of the crash, and get phone and messaging records of the responsible party. An attorney’s role as an advocate is crucial because it protects the legal rights of the mourning family and ensures that the drunk driver is held responsible for his or her reckless conduct during this trying time.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The Robertson family may have a wrongful death claim pending the outcome of the investigation into Antownique’s death. Damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress may be sought by surviving family members of victims of wrongful death after a terrible or catastrophic event like this.
The loss of a loved one in an accident can be devastating, says Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. We know firsthand the struggles that families face and the importance of safeguarding their legal rights. They can rest assured that their best interests and legal rights will be safeguarded by a wrongful death attorney who will monitor the official investigation.
