In a fresh countersuit, Angelina Jolie accuses ex-husband Brad Pitt of assault

Angelina Jolie accuses ex-husband Brad Pitt

In a new court document, Angelina Jolie claims that her ex-husband Brad Pitt emotionally and physically attacked her and their children in 2016.

In a cross-complaint acquired by ABC News, Jolie claims Pitt of physically abusing her aboard a private jet flight in 2016, as well as several of their children, who “bravely” intervened, in a dispute coming from the sale of Jolie’s ownership in their winery, Chateau Miraval.

Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, and Zahara, 17, are adopted children of Jolie and Pitt, as are Shiloh, 16, and Vivienne and Knox, 14-year-old twins.

According to the cross-complaint filed on Tuesday, the alleged event began as a verbal disagreement, with Pitt accusing his then-wife of being “too subservient” to the children.

The affidavit claims that “Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before forcing her into the restroom wall.” “Pitt then repeatedly struck the plane’s ceiling, leading Jolie to flee the bathroom.”

When one of the children angrily defended Jolie, Pitt went at his own child, and Jolie pulled him from behind to stop him, according to the cross-complaint.

“Pitt flung himself backwards into the aeroplane seats to get Jolie off his back, bruising Jolie’s back and elbow. The youngsters surged in, all fiercely attempting to defend one another… Pitt strangled one of the kids and punched another in the face. Some of the children begged Pitt not to continue. They were all terrified. Many people were in tears.”

According to a person close to Pitt, the charges are false. “She continues to review, rewrite, and reimagine her version of an event that occurred six years ago by adding absolutely false facts each time she does not get what she wants,” a source said. “Her story is always changing.”

“She had the option to share information with law enforcement, who decided not to seek charges following their investigation,” according to the source. “She had the opportunity to express this during the lengthy custody trial, which culminated in the judge giving Pitt 50-50 custody after extensive observations and analysis by doctors, therapists, and other professionals. Month after month, she and her staff return to the same thing with new and incorrect facts.”

Jolie filed for divorce five days later, on Sept. 19, 2016, according to the court document.

Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie in February, alleging that she sold her part in their French estate and winery, Château Miraval, without his permission.

Pitt stated in the February lawsuit that he and Jolie “agreed they would never sell their respective stakes in Miraval without the approval of the other.” Miraval is also where the pair spent their holidays and married in 2014.

The lawsuit claims that Pitt “poured money and sweat equity” into Miraval and that Jolie’s sale of Miraval to a third party was “illegal” and that the sale “breached the agreement between Jolie and Pitt that formed the cornerstone of the couple’s investment in Miraval.”

In the cross-complaint, Jolie’s side claims that no such arrangement existed.

“In fact, only days before purchasing Chateau Miraval, Pitt expressly refused in writing to sign into any type of arrangement regulating how he and Jolie may sell their holdings,” the article states.

According to the cross-complaint, Jolie and Pitt completed the Miraval sale without reaching an agreement on how they could both sell their shares in the property.

“On April 30, 2008, just eight days before the purchase of Chateau Miraval, [Pitt’s business manager Warren] Grant communicated Pitt’s explicit rejection of any such deal,” according to the paper.

According to the cross-complaint, Jolie did offer to sell her interest in Miraval to Pitt, but in exchange, “Pitt demanded she sign a non-disclosure agreement that would have contractually prohibited her from speaking outside of court about Pitt’s physical and emotional abuse of her and their children.”

According to the cross-complaint, Pitt walked away from the transaction after Jolie declined to sign the non-disclosure agreement.

According to Jolie’s cross-complaint, Jolie began negotiating with Pitt on a potential sale of her interest in the winery in June 2020, but when Jolie submitted a sealed document titled “Offer of Proof and Authority re Testimony Regarding Domestic Violence” during the couple’s child custody case the following year, Pitt’s team notified Jolie’s that he would be “stepping back” from the Miraval deal.
